Volunteer Credit Program

Volunteer Policy (As outlined in the Handbook)

Blindman Valley Minor Hockey Association is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organization. Without volunteers, our programs simply cannot run. Each member is required to volunteer in the approved volunteer role each season. There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the season at both the association and team level, which are listed in more detail below.

The Volunteer Commitment we require this season is 8 volunteer hours per family.

The Volunteer Commitment Fee is $500:

We want all members to volunteer! This Fee is not about collecting money. We want to be clear; we do not want anyone to pay out their volunteer commitment fee — it is about encouraging families to actively support this Association and the players. Your time, energy, and commitment to volunteering are far more valuable to the success of our programs than any dollar amount.

To register your player, you will be agreeing to this conditional fee:

If the member/family fail to meet their volunteering obligation by the end of the season, an invoice will be sent for the fee following the last event of the season. No partial payments will be accepted. The member will not be able to register for the following season until the outstanding volunteer fee is paid.

During the season:

Team Managers are responsible for submitting volunteer roles for year long positions for each family on their team.  The Volunteer Coordinator will review all accumulated volunteer hours at the end of the season with the Team Manager and Head Coaches.  As per BVMHA bylaws, members with outstanding fees are considered ineligible to participate in BVMHA activities.

Team Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a list of year long positions that are approved volunteer roles:

• BVMHA Board Members - These positions will cover ALL volunteer hour requirements.

• Head Coaches - (Maximum 1 per team) This position will cover ALL volunteer hour requirements.

• Managers - (Maximum 1 per team). This position will cover ALL volunteer hour requirements

• Asst. Coaches - (Maximum 4 per team) This position will cover 4 volunteer hours. (Junior Coaches do not count)

• Team Treasurers - (Maximum 1 per team). This position will cover 4 volunteer hours.

• Tournament Coordinator - (Maximum 1 per team) - This position will cover 4 hours if there is no home tournaments and ALL 8 hours if there is a home tournament or Provincials coordinated.

• Jersey Parents - (Maximum 2 positions per team).  Each position will cover 4 volunteer hours.

While the aforementioned positions are team specific, their function is a direct representation of BVMHA and, as such, they are the only year long positions that have been approved for volunteer hour credit.

Association Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a list of fundraising events that are approved volunteer roles (fundraiser event volunteer hours are accumulated per hour worked):

• Association Events and Fundraisers (ex: Golf Tournament, Awards night).

• Provincial Tournament host committee.

• Equipment sorting, distribution and collection.

• Association Raffle Ticket Sales (1 hour for each booklet sold) does not include individual team raffles).

• Casino shifts.

Volunteer hours are valid for the current season only and may not be rolled over into future seasons.

The current season will start at the AGM for the upcoming season and run up to the AGM of the following year.

All volunteer hours must be completed and confirmed to BVMHA following the last event of the current season and prior to the upcoming AGM. If at the end of the season, a family has not completed the TOTAL volunteer hour requirement, they will be charged the TOTAL $500 Volunteer Commitment Fee.

Any roles not listed above are NOT approved for use. When designating team roles, it is preferred that each family only hold ONE position on a team.  For instance, if one family member is a Coach, a different family member should also not take on the role of Manager, Treasurer or Tournament Coordinator unless team volunteer numbers require.

Collected Volunteer Commitment Fees

All collected Volunteer Commitment Fees are non-refundable. Collected volunteer commitment fees go to the BVMHA general funds. Under no circumstances will individual teams receive the volunteer commitment fee payments.
